Getting your bridal makeup and wedding hair right is hugely important. It's your wedding day - you want to look sensational, right? On top of that, how you look is going to be immortalised forever in your wedding photography.

Choosing a Make-Up Artist (MUA) to craft your dream look for the day is therefore one of the most important wedding decisions you will make. And don't forget, many MUAs are also skilled in bridal hairstyles.

But where to start? Our advice is to take a look at wedding websites and specialist bridal magazines to get ideas of the looks you want your make-up artist to recreate and of the colour schemes that will suit both your complexion and outfit. Another key consideration is the style and any themes you have selected for your wedding. 'I went with an earthy, boho style for my wedding so having a flower crown, loose curls, and a pastel make-up palette were my must-haves and they worked beautifully on the day', said recent bride, Jessica Pruner.

Here are a list of key tips when it comes to choosing the MUA you want to make you glow on your special day:

1. Research, research, research! As above, take a look online and in print to find the bridal hair, make-up, and overall looks that you love. If you find that one artist's style really works for you, then check out their social media pages to see what they have done lately
2. Don't be afraid to buck the trend. Who cares that Jennifer Aniston's 'Rachel' was from the '90s?! If you still love it and *know* it'll make you feel amazing on one of the most important days of your life, then you do you
3. Have your outfit(s) sorted before you knuckle down on your plans for hair and make-up. As 'The Bride' you are on show every moment of the day so it's important that your entire look is jaw-dropping, with a colour palette and hairstyle that match your dress and emphasise your standout features
4. Book a trial session before you make up (!) your mind. Most MUAs worth their salt will offer you the opportunity to meet them in-person, discuss the looks you have decided on, and select one to try out on you before your big day. This gives you both the chance to see whether the make-up ideas you spent time researching work well with your features and complexion and, if not, you now have an opportunity to find a new look with their guidance and expertise
5. Speak up. Many Brides-to-be can feel intimidated by MUAs with years of experience, but that shouldn't stop you from expressing what you want because your wedding is your special day. 'At my trial I wasn't happy with the colour of eyeliner my MUA used but I was feeling quite nervous to tell her. It was only when I saw my facial make-up at home a few hours later, I realised that I had to say something so when she called the following day to discuss the trial, I mentioned it. I was surprised because she was completely understanding and agreed to change it before my wedding' said Maaya. Remember most MUAs are professionals who are proud of their craft and want to make you feel stunning on your big day, so let them know how you're really feeling about your hair and make-up to make that happen
6. Don't be afraid to negotiate. Wedding budgets are often tight so sitting down with your MUA to discuss numbers is important. Do you want the help of the MUA for the full day or are you happy to have your make-up done by your sister for one event and hire the MUA for another? Or do you have a week of events and want to hire different MUAs for different functions, based on their skills, price points and your various styles and themes? These are all key considerations to make before that all-important in-person meeting
